Operation: City Stroll

Gaining backlinks from local sources with good SEO authority can be difficult. We wanted to share a process that can combines two effective SEO concepts: content marketing and backlinks. This process can be done for any city or local area, and best of all it’s fun!

Operation: City Stroll involves identifying fun topics about your city and writing articles about them. This could be historical information, unique art around your city, special events or anything else people in your area might find interesting.

Then by identifying the authoritative local websites that might be willing to post your article, you can write each article with the target audience in mind.

Here are the steps involved in Operation: City Stroll

  • Start with local research to identify interesting topics you would enjoy writing about
  • Brainstorm your topics
  • Further explore favorite topics
  • Identify local sites as potential publication sites
  • In depth research on each topic
  • Begin writing your articles
  • Time for your field work
  • Revise articles – pull it all together!
  • Publish and share your posts

By the end of Operation: City Stroll you will have created 4 or 5 articles on interesting local topics with images, video or an interview gathered during your field work.

The articles can then be offered to pertinent local websites in exchange for a backlink to your website. Some of the articles can be posted on your own website as well for increased content marketing value.

Sometimes all it takes is one quality backlink from a local source to make all the difference in how you rank locally.

Getting your website or your client’s website to rank locally is difficult. However, there are local SEO strategies such as Operation: City Stroll that can be used to increase local rankings while having fun and providing your community with interesting content. Additionally, the only cost for an SEO effort like this is your time.
