Fellow Local Search Expert Dev Basu presented at Search Engine Strategies Chicago yesterday. Dev is a local search expert based in Toronto Canada, and a contributor to the Local Search Ranking Factors report.

His presentation, entitled “Local Search On a Dime” provided a nice step-by-step guide for small business owners showing them how to build a presence for their business in the search engines.

And I’m very excited that in Step 1: Optimize Your Website, he gives a shout out to our SmallBiz WordPress Theme!

Local Search On a Dime

Here is his presentation:

In the presentation:

Learn how to Optimize for Local Search rankings for low or no cost. Steps discussed include:

  • Website Localization + Optimization
  • Business Listing Claiming Procedures
  • Citations and Local Link Building
  • Getting Customer Reviews
  • Offering Local Business Coupons

This presentation was delivered by Dev Basu at the Search Engine Strategies Chicago conference in December 2009.

He also includes some great tips for small business owners to claim their local listings with GetListed.org and Universal Business Listings.

Thanks Dev!

How awesome!

feature request:

I’d love to be able to edit the meta title of the “pages” (not posts). But I really don’t want to install that darn seo plugin…

. Small Business owners are largely forgotten. Thats why I only focus on them. I have experience several members of my family file bankruptcy due to small business failures. I also I suffered through 2 destroyed businesses due to failure however, in my failings I have learned some of the secrets to success. (Who can say they know it all?)
What I like about small business owners is that they are not afraid to take huge risks and lay it all on the line. But, I agree they do need a lot of help with their marketing. I think having them go the social media and email route is not only the least expensive but its also the most effective. Thanks for the stats!

Hi Craig,
I use the All-In-One SEO plugin on all my sites because it allows me to do that, and many other things on a global and per-page basis. But we are working on adding the SEO Title tag capability directly into the SmallBiz theme as well. It’s a good idea.

Awesome!

It’s a great plugin, but it sometimes interferes with other plugins and it clogs up the database when I only am interested in doing one thing… :)

Thanx
