Help Your Favorite Small Businesses with Review Wednesday #RWX

by · 8 comments

Want to help out your favorite local business in a tough economy?

Here’s your chance: the smart folks at GetListed.org have come up with a very cool idea- it’s called Review Wednesday.

The idea is to help spread the word about your favorite small businesses and help them get more customers. Online reviews are very helpful to small business owners – they help them rank better and get discovered by prospective customers.

Online Review in Google Places

Example Online Review in Google Places

Here’s how it works:

  1. During the week, visit a small business like a restaurant, florist, etc. Something you probably do anyway.
  2. Each Wednesday, take 5 minutes and write a review about the business on Google, Yahoo, CitySearch, or one of the other online review sites.
  3. Tweet about your review with a link to it, and use the Twitter hashtag #RWX in your tweet.

That’s it! The review could help out your favorite business, and your tweet will help spread the word about this cool idea and hopefully prompt others to do a review for one of their favorite businesses too.

This is such a COOL idea. No agenda other than helping your local businesses. That in itself is a feel good.

I’ll be out and about running some errands later today and having “Review Wednesday” among my reasons for being out and about seems like something that could add a little spice to normally boring chores.

I think paying some more attention to an employee of an establishment that is helping me, getting their name and mentioning them in the review might be planting a little seed in my “Local Networking” efforts too.

Everybody likes to see their names in print, especially when that print can make them look better in their employer’s eyes. When you think about it, there are undoubtedly hundreds of people we come into contact with each week that feel unappreciated.

Another great idea from Don. KUDDOS :)

What app did you use in the video to update Twitter? It looked almost like a sidebar, and very easy.

Hi George,
It’s the new Twitter client for Mac – Twitter on Mac App Store.
