When you start to write a blog you always have high hopes that the ideas will flow and nobody will interrupt you. But then the phone rings, the baby cries, a news story breaks or any one of another million interruptions occurs. Don’t worry, WordPress makes is quite easy to save and pick up where you left off at a later time.
Take a look at the video to see how easy it is to save and return to draft posts and pages.

Instructions
You should already be familiar with the basics of creating posts, if not first check out this article on Writing and Posting a WordPress Post.
- Leaving – If you need to leave before finishing your blog, just click on Save Draft.
- Editing – When you want to Edit, just click on Edit on the left side of the dashboard. Then double click on the name of the post or click on Edit right below the name of the post. Highlighting how WordPress makes this so easy you can also see this post on your dashboard under the Recent Drafts box. If you get interrupted again, you choose Save Draft. If you finish up, then chose Publish.
- Status – If you make a mistake or just change your mind, just click on edit next to the Status text. Even if you have published a blog you can change the status and essentially un-publish it.
- Autosave – Every so often, WordPress is auto-saving your text to cover you when the unexpected happens. Right at the bottom of the edit box you will see something like “Draft Saved at 5:10:53 pm. Last edited by David on April 27, 2009 at 4:56 pm” so you can see when the last save occurred.
- Pages – All of the same steps work exactly the same with Pages as with posts.
Wrap-Up
WordPress works however you like to work or the fates allow you to work. You can create the blog from start to finish or you can come back multiple times. Even months later, after the blog is live, you can come back and change content if you need to.
