Google Attempts to Solve the Service Areas Problem in LBC

For home based businesses, businesses that travel to their client’s locations, or for businesses that serve an area outside their city, getting listed properly for those cities in Google Maps has been a challenge.

And if you work out of your house, who wants to show their home address in the Maps listing?

Matt McGee just posted on his blog and on Search Engine Land that Google is testing out a new tool to help solve this problem.

Here is a quick video tour of what the new screens look like in the Google Local Business Center.

And here is a direct link to Matt’s post: Google LBC Adds Tools for Service/Home Businesses

Great tip. I know for our business it took quite a while to get correctly setup with Google. If you are looking to get your business listed with Google Local and it needs to verify with a code, be sure to choose the “call” option instead of the “mailing” option. It saves a lot of time and really speeds up changes that you make.

Don,
I read that this service still has bugs, but the articles are about 4 months old. Do you know if there are still issues or can we go ahead and do this with confidence?
