Installing WordPress on your own hosting provider is sometimes called self-hosting WordPress. This is frequently compared to getting a blog account on WordPress.com. We covered the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org in another post; check it out if you are curious.
It’s easy and quick to install WordPress yourself. In How to install WordPress in 5 Minutes or Less we used a tool called Fantastico to automate the installation process and get it done quickly.
New Tool for Quick WordPress Installs – SimpleScripts
Now BlueHost is recommending a new tool for your automated WordPress installs called SimpleScripts. Believe it or not, this tool is even easier to use than Fantastico.
BlueHost is no longer offering Fantastico for WordPress installs, so I wanted to make a video showing how to use SimpleScripts to do the installation.
One Gotcha to Avoid
One thing that several folks have had trouble with – during the SimpleScripts installation there is a blank field after your domain name and people feel like they should to fill this in. If you do, your blog/website will be installed under that directory rather than your domain. Then you’ll have to move your WordPress installation if you want your website to show up at your domain level.

So for most people, you don’t need to enter anything in that field. This way your website will show up at the root of your domain.
The only reasons you would want to install WordPress in a sub directory underneath your domain are:
- You already have a website at the root level of your domain and you want to set up your WordPress site before switching it over to your primary site
You want a static HTML page to be at the root of your domain instead of your WordPress site.
Get Started!
So grab a WordPress Hosting account at BlueHost for $6.95/month and give SimpleScripts a try. Even if you’re a newbie at WordPress you’ll find it an easy way to get a website up and running in minutes!

Is SimpleScripts something that’s available outside of Bluehost? I currently use HostGator and they only have Fanatastico. Would love to automate installations of Wordpress in this way.
Thanks!
@Organic – I think SimpleScripts is specific to BlueHost, but I do have a video that shows how to install WordPress using Fantastico here – How To Install WordPress in Five Minutes or Less
I really enjoyed your video. I am about to install Wordpress and have been trying to figure out if I should do it manually or using SimpleScripts. It was nice to see how the SimpleScripts installation works. Thanks for putting this together.
Thank you Diana! Good luck and let me know if you have any feedback on the video after doing the installation.
Thanks buddy, this is really a great tutorial, I recently started on Wordpress, and finding it a bit difficult as compared to Blogger platform, following your steps and advise, life becomes bit easier. Thanks a lot
I agree. Very good information!
