WordPress allows you to configure the settings to fit how you work. The writing settings are specific to each WordPress user, so even if you have multiple writers you can each setup WordPress to fit your preferences.
Take a look at the video to see how easy it is to customize the writing defaults to fit your style.
Video:Customizing your WordPress Writing Settings
Instructions
From the dashboard click on Settings and then Writing. We’ll cover the basics, but newer versions of WordPress are adding newer features so you may see more settings than are mentioned here.
- Size of Post Box – This is the default size of the editing box. Not critical since, at any time, you can grab the lower right corner with your mouse and enlarge or shrink the window.
- Formatting emoticons – Decide if you prefer to see the text or graphic versions of the little smiley faces
- Formatting nested XHTML – If you know what this is, feel free to adjust. For the remaining 99.9999% of us, just leave it empty.
- Default Post Category – Is there one category that you use most for posts? If not, then choose the category you want to be the default in those instances when you forget to put in a specific category.
- Default Link Category – Is there one category that you use most for links? If not, then choose the category you want to be the default in those instances when you forget to put in a specific category.
Remember to click on Save Changes before leaving this page.
Wrap-Up
WordPress sets up defaults that work for most users – but also includes these options to let you customize WordPress to meet you very specific needs and preferences.

Cool, I didnt know that you can set the edit post size box, that helps alot because most of my blogs have photos and lots of text per post.
Simple video, but it explained something I have been trying to do for months, namely, make the wordpress “writing” box larger. You have no idea how much this helps me. Many thanks, EJ
