WordPress allows you to have a blog which contains dynamic content which is constantly changing as you add new posts. WordPress can also allow you to create an entire site for your small business via the use of pages. If you look above at the top menu of this site you will see pages named About, Contact and Services. These static pages allow Expand2Web to have non-blog related content on the website.
Lets look at the video and see how easy it is to add pages to your WordPress site.

Step-By-Step Instructions
- From the dashboard click on Pages and then Add New.
- The first thing you should do is enter a title. This is exactly what will be displayed on the top of your site, just as with About, Contact and Services above. Typically, you will want very short titles.
- Then, as the video shows, you can move down to the body of your text. If you have used Microsoft Word or any other word processor you should recognize at least a few of the icons above the body. As the video mentions you can add text, images, video – whatever you need for your page.
- Step 4 is not really a step but just a helpful tip that you notice there are NO categories or tags with pages. This is a key difference between posts and pages.
- Attributes are unique to pages. First you pick the parent. In the case of About, Contact and Services – all three of these appear on the home page and thus the main page is their parent. You can arrange your pages in hierarchies, for example you could have an “About” page that has “Life Story” and “My Dog” pages under it. There are no limits to how deeply nested you can make pages.
- Next you pick the order that you want the pages to appear from left to right across the top of the page. If you leave the order at zero than WordPress will default to an alphabetic order.
- Next you can go to the Publish section and click on Save Draft. If you are typing a long blog, it’s a good idea to do this part of the way through – don’t wait until the end!
- After saving you should Preview your blog. It’s always wise to do this – even for experts, but especially for newer users.
- If you find any issues, you can go back to edit or if everything looks good than you are ready to click on publish. All the same features like reverting to a draft and scheduling work for pages, exactly as they do for posts.
Wrap-Up
WordPress can truly be your website. Bog posts alone do not create a site, but the ability to add pages is what makes WordPress a full service web hosting tool.
