Categories and tags help to organize the content in your blog, and make it easier for people to navigate through to find what they’re looking for. They will help users who are already on your site navigate and, perhaps more importantly, will help users find your site via search and blogging tools that index these tags.
Take a look at the video to see how easy it is to setup categories and tags.

Instructions
You should already be familiar with the basics of creating posts, if not first check out this article on Writing and Posting a WordPress Post.
- While creating your blog post, move to the Categories section. If you have already created categories, then all you need to do is put a check next to the category that applies to this blog. If not, you can click on Add a New Category, type in the category name and click Add. Optionally, you can specify a Parent Category and thus create even greater categorization with sub-categories. As an example, the category for this blog is “Using WordPress.”
- You will also want to enter in tags. Tags are one of the several ways that visitors and search engines can learn about your blogs. Think of them as keywords, or words somebody would type in to Google search if they were looking for your article. Always put commas between your tags and click Add when you are ready to enter the tags. It’s wise to use the Choose from the most popular tags because this allows you to have consistent tags.
Wrap-Up
Depending on the WordPress theme that you are using, your users may see the categories in a list on your home page (Check out the lower left corner of the ExpandWeb home page). Your tags may show up as part of a tag cloud on a page and also at the end of your blog postings (as is the case on Expand2Web). Categories and tags allow you to guide your visitors through your blog and they serve as the basis for search engine optimization to start attracting more visitors to your site.
